Homeschool Mathematics Seminar

Learn to think mathematically—not simply memorize.

I am currently forming small mathematics seminar groups for homeschool students approximately age 12 and older.

Students will study mathematics together through thoughtful problems, discussion, explanation, and work at the board. Our primary text will be Serge Lang's Basic Mathematics, with an emphasis on developing a deep understanding of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and the reasoning that connects them.

This is not primarily a tutoring or homework-help class. The seminar is intended for students who are ready to engage seriously with mathematics, ask why things work, explain their reasoning, and become comfortable wrestling with difficult problems.

Seminar Details

Who: Homeschool students approximately age 12+
What: Small-group mathematics seminar
When: Weekly, 75–90 minutes, starting in Fall 2026
Where: St Francis of Assisi Catholic Church (Lincoln, NE) and St Leo Catholic Church in Palmyra, NE.
Cost: $15 per student, per meeting

Multiple groups may be formed based on interest, student preparation, and family schedules.

I believe strong mathematics instruction should build understanding, not simply memorization.

My goal is to help students develop confidence through clear explanations, structured reasoning, and patient guidance. Whether a student is strengthening foundational skills or pursuing advanced coursework, I aim to create an environment that encourages careful thinking and steady progress.

Students develop mathematical confidence and analytical ability through consistent practice, clear reasoning, and genuine understanding of the material.

While technology can be useful in certain contexts, my instructional approach emphasizes active thinking, problem solving, and direct engagement with mathematical ideas rather than passive dependence on automated tools.
